Single Women Are Buying Homes

By AFN Media

Married couples move over! Single women are one of the largest demographics of Americans buying homes right now. Yes, they outpace the men! New data from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) indicate that single women make up almost 18% of new homeowners across the country.

Women empowerment and a growing earning power has helped shift the ratio of homebuyers. About 90% of the single female buyers go through the process with an agent or a broker, according to the National Association of Realtors. Shopping for a home – be it a condo or a house – is an intimate process. The list of buyers’ wants often includes details about their relationship status: do they think they will live in their new place alone?

According to the National Association of Realtors, the median income of the single female buyer is about $57,300 and the median price of the home they purchased is $169,000. In urban areas, both the incomes and the home values tend to be much higher. Women are no longer waiting for a fairytale ending, they are much now more independent are starting to making as much as men (still have a long way to go)

Needless to say it is an exciting time for homeowners and the market.
